Crazy Little Thing Called Life

Well - Sorry it's been a while since my last post. It has been a busy week to say the least! I'll start out with my trip home to Utah. One of the highlights of being home was seeing Nate's little brother Chris, or Freddie as we like to call him, get home from his mission to Madagasgar. It is always so fun to have a missionary serving in your family, but it is especially nice to have them return home faithfully! He is an amazing guy and we are so excited for what life has in store for him over the next few years of his life.

t was so fun to just be home and relax with family. I spent a lot of time with my sister Ali and her kids and then we all went down to Cedar City to see my brother Jed and his beautiful little girls. They are a total crack up! Cassie, his 3 year old, told her mom after we left that she wishes I were her mom because Hayden is just so cute! I laughed! We also just ate out a ton, relaxed, and of course ... shopped! I sure spend a lot of money for us being poor starving students!

!
Hayden and his cousin Cole. Cole absolutely loves Hayden. They are the only two boy cousins on my side, so Cole instantly bonded with him. One day when I was at their house, Cole and his friend Zane were playing and I heard him say a few times that Hayden was his little brother. Too cute! I think Hayden has Grandma and Grandpa Stewart wrapped around his little finger! Every morning, they would get him up and my dad would lay in bed with Hayden and just let him paw at his face and hands.

The craziness continued on Sunday, the day after I got home. They had announced the previous Sunday that we would be having a special Sacrament Meeting the following week with two other wards from our stake. We knew something was up (a potential split of the wards or something), but I had no idea how dramatically it would affect our lives. Well, on Sunday morning, we had to go and meet with the Stake President (my first big clue) and as the day progressed, we found out that instead of just a restructuring of the three wards like we thought, they actually split the three wards up and created four. Thus, we are now members of the newely developed Parkville Ward! And guess who is the second counselor in the bishopric ... you guessed it - Nate! We were a little dumbfounded by the news, but he will do an amazing job. I'm so proud of you babe! The week continued with a lot of meetings, secretive phone calls and emails, and a lot of hush, hush around our house as the new bishopric worked to staff an entire ward in just one short week.

But, there were definete highlights to our week also which included our 3rd anniversary and my 23rd birthday on Tuesday and Wednesday. We celebrated both at the same time at McCormick & Schmicks on Tuesday night. I had the most amazing stuffed shrimp and we shared the Chocolate Bag for dessert. Actually, I ate basically the whole thing and don't feel a bit bad about it! Then on my birthday, I went and picked up my new sewing machine! Dorky, I know, but I'm really excited about it! I really don't know how to sew, but you better believe I'm going to learn!

On a really annoying note, Hayden has been sleeping horribly lately! He is about to drive me crazy! He cryed himself to sleep twice this week and then has been waking up way to much during the night. If I just feed him, he will go right to sleep with no problems, but I don't think he really needs to eat that often. It's just that he just can't fall back to sleep without it. He went to the doctor on Friday morning and he is only in the 10th percentile for weight and the 50th for height, so the doctor said that he defintely still needs to be fed in the night (not the answer I wanted!). Anyways, we are working on it and hopefully it will get better as we are now home for a while and can be on a better schedule! He also started a little bit of rice cereal this week. He didn't particularly love it and still spends most of his time eating his bib instead of the cereal, but it is fun to see the new developments that are happening with him.

One last sad note - our best friends Tricia and Butch moved to Mesa this past week. We are so sad to see them go, but are also so excited for this new start in their lives. Love you guys! Overall, it was a crazy, but very rewarding week! Hope all is well with everyone!

Wow, Kate things have been crazy for you guys, sounds like lots of fun though too!! We should get together and go to the park on one of the warmer days!!

Crazy that they spilt your wards up. Isn't this Nates second time being in the Bishopric? He will do an awesome job.

I'm sad that the Slacks are gone. We wanted to come say good bye but weren't sure when they were leaving!!

Give me a call sometime so that we can get our little dudes together!!

Kate,
I usually don't give baby advice but. . .
Hayden's sleep problem sounds so familiar with what Sable went through at about the same age that I just can't resist. Hope you don't mind!
Anyway, she was sleeping great through the night and then went through a period of waking up constantly for a couple of months. In the end I realized that she was probably going through a growth spurt and really was hungry. Plus, growing hurts! I heard that when kids grow they mainly do it in their sleep. So it makes sense that they would wake up more. I just stuck with her, kept her near me at night and she got over it and back on a sleep-through-the-night routine. So don't fret, he'll get over it naturally. Stick with the cereal during the day, it'll help him fill up more in those waking hours so at night he won't feel quite so hungry. But my general motto is, "If a baby is hungry, feed it!" Those chubby cheeks are so kissable!
Good luck!

luvs, aby

PS - Hayden was so cute in church today!

Brit - We definetely need to get the kiddos together! Are you moving??? We're sad if you are! We don't see each other often, but it is always nice to know you're there!

Aby - The advice is great! That's what the doc thought also and that's what we've been doing (at 1:30, 3, and 6 am last night :) Gotta love it!

Little Hayden's strike of sleeping through the night sounds almost exactly like what Conrad did around that age. I figured it out to be teething. Just relax, feed him when he wants to be fed, don't stress over the rice cereal (I was crazy-stressed), and he will get through it! You will too, it will be awful, but good luck!
We love having Nate in our Bishopric, he really will do a great job! He has the nicest, kindest personality and attitude we have total faith in him!
Now you get to hang out more with the mommy club with Nate more busy and your adopted parents gone... (condolences, too!) We look forward to seeing you around!

Kate, sounds like you had a fun time with your family, and it was so fun seeing you also! Hopefully some day our kids will get to play more often! I have to say that I am SOOOOO jealous you got the chocolate bag! MY FAVORITE!!! This was the first year that Dave and I didn't go to McCormicks on our anniversary :( We went to a really yummy place in Vegas though, but decided we would be heading back to Vegas soon to hit their McCormick's. They don't have a choc bag though :( Hope you had a great B-day and anniversary!

Sorry Hayden has been sleeping bad. They definitely seem to go through ups and downs! You'll get through it and he will be sleeping like a champ soon.

I bet you are way sad the Slack's are gone. It will be so good for them, but I would have been way sad to see them go. We love and miss you guys!

Sounds like you guys have been busy! Congratulations on the new calling- that is definitely a big one. Oh, and the sewing machine as well! Sewing is definitely addictive. I started a couple years ago and it has completely taken over my spare time. I've got lots of sewing stuff on my blog, you should stop by sometime!

Mmmmmm, chocolate bag. I could eat two of them! Maybe I should.

I know allll about spending money when you are "starving." I'm about to go to Arkansas and that means trouble. Adrian is not amused by this.

Hayden has been such a good baby thus far, let him be a monster for a bit...call it a little phase. Just take deep breaths. He's so cute!

We're thrilled that we are in the Parkville ward with you guys. I saw Nate give a big yawn after sacrament on Sunday, I know he must have had a long week!

When you learn how to use the sweing machine let me know. I have yet to teach myself how.
