Quick Update

There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children. One of these is roots; the other is wings.
- Hodding Carter

Isn't he the cutest thing you have ever seen! I may be partial, but he is a total stud! Oh, It's been a while, but we are definitely still kicking! At the first of August, we did the unthinkable and tried out for American Idol. I know, I know - what were we thinking! It was a super long day of waiting and being herded around like cattle only to sing for like 20 seconds and be told that we "aren't what they are looking for this year." Oh well! At least we can say we did it. I will never try out again in a million years, but at least I had a fun day with my honey and we got it out of our system!

Hayden and I then set off for Utah and had a great time home visiting family. The timing was perfect because when we were home, Nate was studying for boards for Dental School. He was able to get some good study time in, and we didn't go crazy sitting at home. The highlight of the trip was being their for my beautiful friend Katelyn's wedding. She was STUNNING and her wedding was so much fun! Instead of a reception or dinner, she had a party at the Salt Lake City Warehouse which was one of a kind. Boy, does she know how to plan a party! Here are Collyn, Katelyn and I right after the sealing.

On the home front, things are pretty normal. Hayden is still working his army crawl and gets everywhere he wants to go. He can stand up on anything and loves to bee line it for the stairs. He is also loving books right now, which makes his momma very proud! Maybe there is a little bit of me in him after all.

On my reading bookshelf, I just finished Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer. I couldn't let the Mormon craze leave me behind, and I kind of liked it! I also just finished the best book called Nim Chimpsky, The Chimp who would be Human by Elizabeth Hess. It was so interesting to anyone who is interested in language acquisition. Next on my nightstand is The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls. I have had tons of people tell me it's good, so I'll let you know how it is!

Hayden also loves to wait at the door for his dad to come home from school every day and lights up when he sees him. Nate is in his third year now, so he is seeing patients most the time and loving it. I'm just so happy that he found something that he enjoys doing. Heaven knows if I had to work in someone's mouth all day, I would go crazy, but thankfully he loves it or we would be in a world of trouble!

One last funny story - we have a basket full of toys in our living room and Hayden loves to stand up next to it and pull them all out. Well, yesterday there was a toy that he wanted that was just out of reach, and all of the sudden, he toppled over the top of the basket! He didn't quite know what to think, and I couldn't hold back the giggles. This picture just doesn't do it justice!

That kid is adorable.

I wish I was well enough to attend Kaitlyn's wedding. It would have been wonderful to say hello.

Fun post Kate! Sorry the American Idol experience wasn't a better one! That was a pretty funny pic of Hayden in the basket. The other day Brynlee was in the tub and leaned over and fell face first in. Luckily Dave with in the bathroom to catch her. She seriously keeps us on our toes! Can't wait to get the little ones together again. I will talk to Dave about Phoenix and hopefully we can come and see you and the Slacks!
